Marathons for Your Marriage
Josh and I are going to run the Long Beach Marathon in October. We have had such a fun-filled/busy summer that our training has been neglected…So for the past month we have been doing long runs every Saturday, adding two miles each week. We usually run down Provo Canyon early in the morning and it is just gorgeous.
This past Saturday we ran 14 miles. (This now marks the farthest I have ever run in my whole life!) In order to reach 14 miles and still park our cars in normal areas, we had to run 6 miles down the canyon to Bridal Veil Falls, turn around and run two miles BACK to Vivian Park, then turn around AGAIN and finish running out of the canyon. You can probably imagine how HORRIBLE it was to actually turn around and start running uphill and against the wind after six miles of running, thinking that this was just adding four miles to the run…I was not happy! I kept thinking, “When I meet Josh (because I was a little ahead), I’m just going to run with him and tell him not to worry about those 4 extra miles.” It was so hard! But soon Josh and I met and he gave me a huge hug and said “You’re doing awesome! You’re halfway finished!!” and other encouraging words. I forgot all about how ridiculous it was to go back to Vivian Park. I was just instantly happy. I knew that Josh would be turning around and we’d meet again soon and I’d get another hug! Then I wondered how I could clone Josh and put him at every mile marker down the trail.
Anyhoo, it has been so much fun having such a huge goal that Josh and I are both working towards TOGETHER (I mean, BESIDES Exaltation, of course). I highly recommend it. (Sorry I don’t have any pictures of us all sweaty and stinky to post with this 🙂 )
