We made an appointment for Emmy to get her ears pierced today. We went to the same place McKynlee went a couple weeks ago for hers. It was a tattoo parlor in Payson. It’s supposed to be way safer and more hygienic than the mall. There were some interesting characters there, for sure. As we waited for about 15 minutes and as they were prepping, Emmy started having second thoughts, it seems…..
Here is her video…..
I was soooo surprised and immediately SOOOOO PROUD OF HER!!!! I don’t mind her having pierced ears, but I was sooooo amazed by how brave she was to stop them. I would have just been silent and gone through with it, afraid to inconvenience anyone or just given in to the peer pressure. After I turned off the video, the guys and McKynlee were trying and trying to persuade her to just do it and she would NOT. When we got out to the car, I gushed all over her, telling her how awesome and brave she is and how proud I was. At Lake Powell, Rich and Dallas kept saying “Ooooh yeah, she doesn’t do peer pressure” whenever we’d try to get her to do something. She certainly does not.
We wanted to give Emmy her birthday present on her birthday, but Amazon shipped the wrong color. Luckily, they are awesome and Emmy is patient. Her baby blue beach cruiser came today!
This July continues to be heart-wrenching for me. There have been news reports just yesterday and today of “AMERICANS” burning our flag and challenging each other to desecrate the flag in some way. This is absolutely, indescribably INFURIATING to me. Tonight, as we sang the National Anthem and said The Pledge of Allegiance, Josh and I were just bawling. My heart was breaking inside of my body. I could actually feel pain inside of my heart!
I had never been to a Flag Retirement before, but it was POWERFUL. It is essentially a funeral for the flags, honoring each as a soldier who had valiantly defended our country. As they marched reverently into the arena with this huge flag, one soldier played Taps, and I realized this all summed up exactly how I had been feeling all through this holiday….
