Ah, don’t you just love Thanksgiving? One great part of Thanksgiving is watching “Trains, Planes and Automobiles”. One of the classically horrible parts is when Steve Martin and John Candy end up having to share a bed in a disgusting hotel. In the morning, as they are slowly waking up, Steve asks John where his hand is and John replies “Between two pillows”….you know the rest.

I had a similar, horribly shocking experience today.

Ashton has been potty trained since September but every once in a while, he forgets to poop on the toilet. So today when I was forcing him to stay at the kitchen table to eat his lunch, he pooped in his undies. Gross, I know. Well, we got it all taken care of and went back to finishing lunch. A little while later I noticed Emmy playing with a little fruit snack on the kitchen floor. It was sticking to her fingers so I went over to take it away. I picked it up, it was shiny and dark and sticky and I said to Josh,”I wonder how she got this fruit snack….waaaait a min…THAT’S NOT A FRUIT SNACK!!!!!”

Poop, I was holding POOP!!! IN MY HAND!!! I’m almost throwing up right now!!!

I’ve been waiting for November 5th to come for quite a while now. The weeks leading up to the election were just unbelievably draining and I wanted it all to be over. I tried to convince myself to expect it all to end this way, but I never really lost hope, which is why, I guess, I am completely devastated today.

I was busy with my two sweet, innocent kids all morning, a pretty nice distraction from the nausea I would feel if I ever stopped to think of the world that I brought them into. After lunch, I put them both down for naps and ran on the treadmill. Now, you might be thinking,”She just ran a marathon, she could run forever.” Not so. Every day I run about 2-3 miles and every day it is very hard and I hate it. But today, though I didn’t eat very much being sick to my stomach n’all, I ran and ran and ran. I ran four miles without stopping, being fueled by disappointment, unbelief, anger, frustration, helplessness, disgust, and most of all, FEAR. I just wanted to escape all of it, but where could I go???? Finally, I stopped the treadmill, knelt down and cried and cried.

You might be thinking, “What the…??? This girl is out of her mind! She must really hate black people! You’re being just a little melodramatic, aren’t you, Jenn?” Perhaps I am being overly dramatic, but today I can’t help it. Maybe I’ll feel better tomorrow…who knows.

Josh posted a video on his blog a few days ago, you must watch it. The title of my post is from the video and will not stop running through my head. Demoralization of Society

Add the information from this video to words of the latter-day prophets and The Book of Mormon and what do you get? Jenn, on the floor crying.

My parents were warriors in California to support Prop 8. It was an extremely heated and frightening battle out there, especially for members of the LDS church. And of course, it is wonderful that Proposition 8 passed, but my mind is boggled and reeling by how close it was to NOT passing. This is definitely not over and I find myself questioning the strength I possess to continue fighting against a world that denies the simple truths and inner light that we all have been given. I am overwhelmed by the responsibility of raising children who will have to fight even harder to make righteousness and truth prevail against the false teachings of men.

So no, I don’t hate black people, nor do I hate homosexual people. I love everyone except for Satan who is doing a phenomenal job on this earth.

This year Ashton wanted to be CAPTAIN Jack Sparrow (don’t you dare leave out the captain). Cari decided to be Minnie Mouse while we were at Disneyland. She made her cute outfit and had some leftover fabric, so I decided to make Emmy Minnie Mouse also. I need to brag for a minute because I think this costume is super cute and I made it without a pattern. I can’t take any of the credit for my sewing skills because my mom taught me everything I know. As I frantically threw these costumes together I just kept thinking about her staying up all night long making Halloween costumes for all of her kids. In my memory, we could never decide what to be until late the night before. Then almost like magic when we woke up in the morning we would have these perfect costumes all ready to wear to school. I don’t think I really appreciated those all-nighters until now.

When we showed Ashton his perfect pirate costume the first thing he said was,”Thanks Mom! Now I just need boots and a sword!” I hadn’t considered how crazy he was about “Captain” Jack Sparrow. I searched everywhere for boots for Ashton and finally ended up just making him some.

Josh and I scrounged up some costumes this year and it actually made it a lot more fun. We took the kids over to Grammy and Paw’s and then we came home to Trick-or-Treat.

We all went around our block while it was still sunny, then I stayed at home to hand out candy while Josh (in his bare feet) took the kids out for almost two hours. (Cari and her roommate, Amy, joined him halfway) Emmy loved knocking on the doors but didn’t wait around for the candy. Ashton was so sweet the whole night. At every door he would get a candy for himself and one more for Emmy. Even if the person at the door said “Juuust one”, Ashton would say, “I need two.”

After Trick-or-Treating, we went over to Eddie and Lindsey’s for their Halloween Party. We had such a fun night.

This is the 3rd year we’ve gone and it’s turning into a great tradition. This year we just got one tiny pumpkin for Ashton (I had already been gutting pumpkins since they became available at the grocery store. Josh is going to check me into rehab for my pumpkin seed addiction) but we just had to go for the hayride and Red Barn goodies.

So after a couple months of training, the time came for us to drive to California to participate in the Long Beach Marathon. I must admit that while I was packing and loading up the car, the phrase “I am going like a lamb to the slaughter” kept running through my head. However, I certainly wasn’t calm as a summer’s morning. Every time I thought about running 26.2 miles, I would almost throw up.

We decided to go to Disneyland a couple days before the marathon, while we still had the ability to walk. I was sooo excited for this! We took Ashton when he was the same age Emmy is now and it was a blast. (How time flies, eh?) Kris and Cari came with us and provided plenty of entertainment for us and helped with the kids. We don’t go anywhere unless we have AT LEAST two nannies to help.

Ashton got to see all of his favorite characters, Captain Jack Sparrow (do NOT forget the ‘Captain’ part), Woody, Buzz, the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse gang. During the parade, when he saw Mickey and Minnie up on the top of a float, he jumped up and started waving like crazy at them and then blew them a kiss. Oh man, my heart just melted and I got a lump in my throat. It was so cute.

I’ve been to Disneyland praaah-bly ten brazillion times, but it is truly MAGICAL every time. I think it’s getting even better for me now that I have kids and it’s fun to see them so excited.

Josh, Kris and I ran the Long Beach Marathon last weekend. It’s strange, I don’t really know what to say about it. We worked so hard and I stressed myself out over reaching this goal for the past few months and now it’s just over. Leading up to it, I was sure that I would never run another marathon again, I could just put a check mark next to ‘marathon’ on my list and be done. But I can honestly say that I had tons of fun and I MIGHT even say I would love to run another one.

The first 10′ish miles of the course were right near or on the beach…GORGEOUS! I didn’t even turn on my music until mile 9, I was just enjoying the incredible scenery and feeling the energy of everyone around me. Kris and I ran the first 13 miles together, it was nice to have a buddy to keep me going. But by then, we just needed to concentrate on finishing and taking those spurts of energy when they came and we got separated. Josh hadn’t been able to run for five weeks before the race, having a completely messed up knee, so we weren’t even sure if he would be able to run 5 feet. He just took it easy and snapped these beautiful pictures with his iPhone along the way. By mile 13, he realized he might actually run another marathon and just kept going. The course double-backed on itself and when I was at mile 20 and just about out of steam, I saw Josh turn the corner and come running toward me on his mile 15! Just like when we were training, getting a huge hug from Josh gave me enough energy to keep going and finish! Sadly, because Josh took these amazing pictures, it used all his battery and he had no music to listen to from mile 20 to the finish.

There were people all along the course to cheer us all on and since we had our names on our numbers, it was nice to hear people yelling “Come on, Jennifer! You can do it!” I finished the marathon in 4 hours 45 min. I’m not totally happy with my time but ah well.

I love you, Josh and Kris!!!
